Live in carers live with a clients in their homes  and provide daily living assistance. A live in carer assists with personal care like bathing, dressing, and  food, and keeps their clients safe. They offer friendly interactions, and when needed, company. Depending on needs, live-in carers can manage incontinence, administer medication, and respectfully supervise your loved one to ensure they feel safe and cared for day or night.

  • The legal requirement for breaks in the UK is 2 hours per day, or 14 hours over a 7 day period.
  • 24hr Live in care requires 2 Carers working a day and night shift.
  • If you have 1 Live in Carer he/she will have  established work hours for example 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm. 
  • Even though our carers will do their best to assist a client at night, if the night time disturbances become intense and untenable we recommend changing to  day shift and night shift carers. 
  • Live in Care workers must have 8hrs on a 24hr cycle allocated for sleeping. Sleep deprivation is harmful in an already high stress industry.
  • Legally over time/ bank holidays will be charged at a set hourly rate. As in any other industry.
  • Personal care: Bathing, grooming and dressing etc.
  • Household chores: They will lend a hand with cleaning, laundry, preparing meals, and running errands.
  • Mobility: Assist with getting in and out of bed and moving from room to room. Going for short walks.
  • Medication: Making sure that medications are taken on time and preventing over or under dosages.
  • Companionship and care: Generally keeping the client company when needed.
  • Assisting medical  Workers with data and access.

There are some essentials to consider to enable carers to work efficiently and live comfortably since the client’s house will be the carer’s temporary residence and workplace. 

Basically

  • Private space: A private room in which to sleep and have time away from the person they care for. It must be well ventilated, have good natural light  and have a comfortable bed and storage.
  • Bathroom facilities: Access to clean, functional facilities for washing, showering, and going to the loo in privacy.
  • Home comforts:  Their room should be warm, well-lit, and clean.

Live in care can be more cost-effective and comforting then nursing home care. Carers that live in the home charge a daily rate, with rates starting from between £120 and £150 per day.
